Mission Statement and Ethos

Our Lady’s B.N.S. hopes to promote and develop mutual respect and tolerance among its staff and pupils. Our school hopes to nurture an open, transparent and caring environment among all involved in its work. It is therefore, incumbent on all teachers and ancillary staff to foster a positive and affirming attitude towards work within the school.

We, the teachers, hope to assist each child to use his school experience to achieve his full potential in the social, academic, spiritual, sporting and aesthetic spheres and in so doing enhance his self-confidence and self-esteem.

We see the value of having an overall school plan with clear outlines of work for each grouping and a code of discipline that is reasonable and fair. We acknowledge the importance of the educational partnership between the Board of Management, parents and teachers.

School Ethos

Our Lady’s BNS is an all-boys Catholic primary school under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin.  Together with the Board of Management, the parents and the parish community, we provide Religious Education for the pupils in accordance with the doctrines, practices and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church.

We have adopted the ‘Grow in Love’ programme, the recommended approach to religious education for the reception of the sacraments of First Penance, Holy Communion and Confirmation. We promote the formation of the pupils in the Catholic Faith in a manner that is welcoming to and inclusive of the presence of pupils committed to other religious traditions.

Our Christian ethos also permeates the school day through our actions, attitudes and practices:

  • We provide opportunities for prayer, the celebration of liturgy and the sacraments.

  • We strive to create a learning environment where every child is encouraged and enabled to develop to their full and unique potential as human beings.

  • We seek to form pupils who will unselfishly use their gifts for the common good and are committed to work for a more just and caring society.

  • We provide a welcoming and inclusive community that is respectful and tolerant of all religious traditions and beliefs.

At Our Lady's Boys' National School we have the following facilities:

  • Junior Yard including a children’s playground with soft surface featuring climbing frames, swings, side, spinners and see-saws.

  • Muti-purpose school hall including stage

  • Sensory garden and outdoor classroom

  • Multi-sensory room

  • Occupational therapy room

  • In close proximity to both pre-school and after school care

  • Lots of car parking

  • In walking distance of both Marlay Park and St Enda’s Park

  • Senior outdoor yard and basketball court

  • Large outdoor yard

  • Each classroom is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, laptop, and we have 70 tablets in total which the older classes use at different times for research and projects.

Our Staff

Our Lady’s Boys’ National School has a highly-qualified and dedicated staff. We have 16 teachers and 9 Special Needs Assistants. The staff is headed by our Principal, Ms Cliona O’Keeffe and our Deputy Principal Mrs. Dempsey.

All of our staff work closely together to ensure that all of the children are enabled to learn to the best of their abilities during their time with us. The teachers and SNAs work with parents and other professionals (e.g. Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists etc.) to ensure that the educational needs of all the boys are adequately catered for.

Staff members regularly undertake Continuous Professional Development to ensure they remain up to date with the latest educational developments.

Board of Management

The Board of Management is responsible for the overall running of the school on behalf of the Patron. The Board devolves responsibility for the day-to-day management to the Principal. The Board of Management is appointed for a period of four years and during that period it ensures that each child is provided with an appropriate education. With the exception of the Principal teacher all members of the Board of Management are volunteers who are nominated by various stakeholders within the school community. The Patron has two nominees, the Parents have two nominees (one male and one female), the local community has two nominees and the Principal and one other teacher are nominated by the school staff.

At Our Lady’s BNS we are blessed with an active and invaluable Board of Management. The board meets every four to six weeks to discuss issues ranging from maintenance to child protection. The school would not be the same without the high level of dedication shown by these volunteers. The Board of Management members are:

  • Chairperson – Irene Lawlor

  • Parish nominee – Roisín Greenan

  • Parents nominee – Vicky Butler

  • Parents nominee – Denis O’Connell

  • Community nominee – Liam Muldowney

  • Community nominee – Caroline Dufficy
